A lot has been going on since last I posted here. We have made new friends, settled on a church to go to, attended a small group, I took a tennis class on base with a friend, I flew home for my 23rd birthday, I’ve applied for jobs (without much luck), we celebrated Thanksgiving yesterday and Thursday, we finally bought a vacuum, and we’re talking about getting a puppy. The biggest news of all, however, is that we know where we are headed after Pat is finished with his training! We are headed to Beale AFB in northern California! We couldn’t be more excited. It’s close enough to home for friends and family to visit, it’s a beautiful area with lots of outdoor recreational possibilities (unlike San Angelo), and we have heard from so many friends in the Air Force that it’s an amazing base. I am so proud of Pat for receiving one of his top choices, and couldn’t be happier that he got his “dream job.” I absolutely cannot wait to be back in the Pacific Northwest, nestled between national forests, mountains, and lakes, with the coast only a few hours away. It’ll be refreshing to be somewhere more familiar with so many possibilities for adventure and exploration.

As we have spent more time in San Angelo, the feeling of isolation from any natural beauty has grown and become somewhat overwhelming. I spend a lot of time inside because the city is dirty and run down. As the seasons change and the temperatures drop, I hope to start running again, because there are few things that make me feel better about myself and my health. It’s been a little hard on me living here, feeling without purpose. The days seem dark and I lack motivation to do much of anything, aside from sleep, clean, and watch Netflix. The celebration of Thanksgiving and the anticipation of returning home for Christmas have brightened my mood and outlook significantly, however, and the past few days have sparked joy, peace, and the energy to tackle preparing a Thanksgiving meal for the two of us (more on that to come later). Everything feels different now that we have a new home with all new possibilities waiting for us on the horizon.
I fly home the second week of December to celebrate Christmas with the Finney and Murphy families, and Pat a couple days after. Then comes the new year, and a few short months after Pat will be graduating, we’ll be moving to Beale, I hope to start nursing school after we move, and within the year he should be promoted to First Lieutenant. 2014 has been a great year, full of milestones and a lot of personal growth, both individually for Patrick and me, but also as a married couple. Our life together is good, and there’s nothing we enjoy more than our weekends together. I am so happy and feel very blessed that we have so many good things waiting for us in the next year. I can hardly wait!
For friends and family who are curious about where Beale Air Force Base is located, and what it’s close to, I created a map of California, including the nearby cities and national forests. Feel free to start planning your visits now!
